AfricaSan Awards

The AMCOW AfricaSan Awards aim to raise the profile of sanitation and hygiene in development agenda. It seeks to promote excellence in leadership and innovation at various levels. The Awards also place a spotlight on bold initiatives and innovations that inspire action in the sanitation and hygiene sector at various levels.

During AfricaSan7, the award event will recognize and honor the outstanding achievements and contributions of sanitation and hygiene champions under various categories. Participants are free to submit their nomination for consideration and further evaluation by the AfricaSan7 Award Committee. Winners will be announced during the AfricaSan7 Gala Dinner. The award will feature five categories as summarized below:

Award title

Leadership Award

Description

This high-level award recognises exemplary leadership that leads to the transformation of the WASH service delivery. This award honours leadership that leads to positive impact in improving access to WASH services and lasting impact on communities, institutions, as well as policies. This category will recognise up to 5 leaders.

Award title

Service Award

Description

This category recognises public service officials for their contribution to the delivery of sanitation and hygiene services in Africa. Focus is on officials who have demonstrated (long-term) contribution and support in advancing various aspects of water and sanitation development. There will be 5-10 awards in this category, equally distributed across the 5 AMCOW regions.

Impact Award

Description

This award honours partners whose technical and financial support is contributing to improving good governance and strengthening institutions. It also honours individuals who have provided financial and technical support towards AMCOW Work Programme. The award focuses on individuals’ efforts towards sustainable management of water and sanitation towards poverty reduction and social development goals. There will be 3-5 awards in this category.

Women and Youth Innovation Award

Description

This award recognises unique sanitation projects demonstrated by women and youth in the areas of innovation, effectiveness, and sustainability toward improving access to safely managed sanitation services. One key condition for this award is evidence of successful project implementation, community engagement, and measurable impact on public health and improved livelihoods. The second sub-category focuses on youth innovation in the sanitation sector. This seeks to encourage young, creative, minds through graphic illustrations and aesthetics in designing the official 7th AfricaSan Conference Banner.

Country Achievement Award

Description

This award focuses on recognizing progress Member States have made towards meeting the Ngor commitments and their national sanitation and hygiene targets. Achievement includes advancement in policies and implementation of programs that lead to increased access to sanitation and hygiene services.

Participants are free to submit their nomination for consideration and further evaluation by the AfricaSan7 Award Committee. An awards’ evaluation committee will support with the review of the nominations.
